The LED matrix provides a display with a resolution of 8×8 red/green/yellow pixels. In addition, it also has an on-board push button and an infrared receiver. This combination allows the device to receive commands and to output feedback to the user. The LED matrix shield is used mainly in Wise Clock.

The Gadget Shield includes: A Freescale MMA7361L 3-axis accelerometer. A high-brightness RGB LED. 38kHz logic infrared detector. Infrared LED. Visible light sensor. Four LEDs. Two thumbwheel potentiometers. Two general-purpose momentary-contact pushbuttons.
